This trip is a week-long excursion to Baltimore, Maryland. Trip participants spend the week working with students and staff at the Corpus Christi Community Center in the city's Resevoir Hill neighborhood. ASBers also get to see Corpus Christi Church, in the city's Bolton Hill neighborhood, and get insight into the specific dynamic of the Corpus Christi experience from Corpus Christi staff members. Participants are also exposed to information on issues of urban poverty and child development.
The trip also includes a trip into Washington, D.C., for sightseening and dinner at The Dubliner, as well as exposure to much of what Baltimore has to offer, including the Inner Harbor and Lexington Market.
Comments from past participants in the ASB In the City Experience:
"I was suprised at how different one side of the road can be from the other... It is one thing to know about something; it is another thing to see it."
"These children have great potential, but great needs. We ignore their needs at our own societal and spiritual peril."
"This is something I will always be involved in both because I am more aware of the extreme need and because I want to understand better the problems and culture of inner cities."
"I thought my eyes were open; I thought I knew the truth; but I did not know nearly enough."
"To see how receptive everyone was to our help and see the amount of fun, happiness, and faith each of the community's members had was well worth the time."
