Public Health: Health, Behavior, and Society
I firmly believe that since coming to college my faith has expanded immensely and I know that this would not have been possible without the Newman Community. I therefore have tried to give back to the Newman Community and help others have a similar experience to me. I have been involved in the Newman Community literally since my first weekend in Rochester. I have attended Kairos as a participant and as a leader several times, and have helped plan other events including the St. Joe's soup kitchen volunteer opportunity. I have served on steering committee for one term and have thoroughly enjoyed the “NEWMAN EXPERIENCE.”

Hey everyone! Newman is my family and has made my Rochester experience absolutely wonderful. I love Newman, and I have been part of Steering Committee for two years, been in various committees, have led Kairos retreats, and am a Eucharistic Minister and Lector :)

During my freshman year, the Newman Community changed my life. I've partaken in many of the Newman activities and programs since my freshman year, and I look forward to continuing this as a sophomore.

Epidemiology
Newman is very important to me because it has provided me the opportunity to maintain and to deepen my relationship with God. I have always been Catholic, but my parish at home was not a good fit for me, so I was never very active in the community. It is the complete opposite here. Newman has a wide variety of programs like a fall semi-formal, intramural sports, and service opportunities to try to cater to everyone, so it is not hard to get involved, especially when everyone is really friendly and warming! I have formed many great friendships with people who I would never have met had our faith not united us, and it has made my college experience so much better!

I have been involved with Newman so that I can make the “NEWMAN EXPERIENCE” the best that it can be. I have helped plan and organize many of the great events that happen each week, and have worked especially on freshman nights, the Interfaith Semi Formal, and the Kairos retreat.

Newman provides a great support community, loads of people to meet, and plenty of free food. I'm also a big fan of service, and the Newman Community has several opportunities to get involved. For me, what’s not to love?

When I came to Rochester last fall for the beginning of grad school, my nearest friend was 3000 miles away. A year later, my life is blessed with friends, faith, and community because of Newman.

Public Health: Health Policy
Each mass ends with the saying “let us go in peace to love and serve the Lord”, and it’s not through Sunday Mass that this is accomplished. And it’s not from Sunday mass that I have truly learned what this means, or been able to do this. Rather, it’s been through participating in community service events, attending retreats, and activities like NewmanFest, all of which are our Catholic faith in action. It is through these activities that I have truly learned to love and serve the Lord.

Newman has honestly been one of the pillars in my journey of self-discovery here at the University of Rochester. It has provided me a place to develop socially, emotionally, spiritually, and even physically (Go (insert sport name here) for Jesus!). The Catholic Newman Community has helped me in more ways than imaginable. Also, helping others is one of my passions in life, and through Newman, I have been given multiple opportunities to serve others.
