Dear friends,
Welcome to the University of Rochester! It is my pleasure to congratulate you on behalf of Catholic Newman Community's Executive Board for
starting this wonderful, exciting, new journey in your life, and offer the warmest welcome to all of you!
As you enter this promising phase of life, I would like to offer a personal invitation to join the Newman Community here filled with wonderful people. For many students, the Newman Community serves as a home-away-from-home at university filled with friendship, and is a place for anyone to feel welcome and explore their beliefs among peers. And what better time to get involved and make meaningful connections at Newman, our community being more vibrant than ever with the construction of the new Joseph P. Mack Catholic Center under way after years of planning!
For those new to the university we have plenty of events planned for you! We will be kicking off Welcome Week with our annual Jenga Jam, lawn games, and more! We hope that you will join us for these, as they are a wonderful time for old and new friends to gather together and familiarize yourself with our beautiful community and traditions.
And that's just the start! Here at Newman, we have weekly events all throughout the semester to encourage you to explore your personal life and spiritual life. From weekly Sunday Mass and Instamass on Wednesday nights to Newman Nite on Thursdays with a home-cooked meal provided among good company, and so many events in between, we offer a collection of opportunities for you to meet new people and take time to step back from the busy schedule of the week.
It is especially important to not overlook the support that the Newman Community can provide. College is an extremely exciting time filled with progress, but it can also be overwhelming at times. Newman is here for you and anyone as a resource to help you through those times. Here at Newman, your growth and well-being are of utmost importance to all of us, and we would go to no end to ensure you have the support you need throughout university. I personally have found that taking the time to step back from my schedule in order to come to events at Newman has been, and continues to be, one of the most beneficial things to my college experience and development.
I would also like to express that you joining in our community will only make it better! Your presence in of itself is a blessing to everyone else in Newman. From friendship, to spiritual guidance, to a place to feel a sense of belonging with, Newman is here to offer a plethora of students an environment that can benefit them in their journey here that the U of R.
